Business expense claims in 2025

Why is it? In a day and age where AI, data systems, climate change, automation and robotics, are we still collecting paper receipts for business expense claims? It’s outdated and time to reduce our consumption and improve our data management systems

Efficiency and convenience in the kitchen

I was in one of my favorite restaurants the other day during a busy lunch hour rush when I glanced over to the open style kitchen where the chefs were endlessly preparing meals for hungry patrons, and saw a spindle of orders and paper receipts stacking up high. This got me thinking.. What if Payperless can help solve this solution? By adding our QR code receipt scanner in store, your live receipts and orders can be displayed and sent to a smart display screen in the kitchen. This can be seen by all staff and accurately speed up the kitchens processes. This environmentally conscious solution to using technology could save businesses thousands! Payperless's solution could increase efficiency in kitchens and restaurants all over the world.

More waste !!!

Ordered a bagel today and got printed out an order number receipt . 🧾 stood with it for 10 minutes , got my food then found it a rubbish bin to live in . There must be a more efficient way ! What a waste ,with such short use.

Why print them at all! Such a waste of both the consumer and retailers time. Payperless is clearly the obvious software solution here, @Lily Jones-Harvey

  • According to a study named “Skip the Slip” from 2020, led by GreenAmerica, every year in the US, receipt use consumes over 3 million trees and nearly 9 billion gallons of water (34 billion litres). Production and disposal of receipt paper generates unnecessary waste and emits the carbon equivalent of over 400,000 cars on the road.

  • According to the BeatTheReceipt campaign, around 200,000 trees are destroyed to supply the UK with paper receipts each year and 1.6 billion litres of water are needed to produce the thermal paper on which they are printed (which is enough drinking water for almost 1.5 million people for an entire year).

  • And finally, over 90% of receipts are lost, damaged or thrown away by consumers, creating more than 10,000 tons of paper waste.

  • According to insideretail.com, if Australian retailers all stopped printing receipts for a year, the nation could save approximately 1.5 million trees, 249 billions litres of water, and 4.5 billion litres of oil.

What is the environmental impact of paper receipts and how does this contribute to increasing ocean acidification?

Where do receipts generally go after their single use? Yes, you guessed it, typically thrown onto the floor and blown into the street. When exposed to environmental factors like rain and sunshine, these receipts break down faster and these chemical by products like BPA and BPS flow into our water networks and into the ocean. This can add to increased levels of ocean acidification, and moreover speeding up the process of climate change.

I was shocked when I was walking into my local grocery store and noticed all the paper receipts carelessly cast into the street by people leaving the grocery store. This sparked my idea! and I realized that this could be far more detrimental than this looks to the eco-system and the environment. We often think of large plastics and other large forms of waste going into our water networks but how often do we think about chemica…

This is daylight robbery! When a country like New Zealand which is one of the top producers of dairy products for the world, charges it citizens $17.70 for 2 litres of cream, Who would’ve thought to pay something like this when your country is one of the biggest farms in the world 🇳🇿
